Cult Collectibles, a website that sells serial killer-related collectibles, has them for sale for $8.000 a painting supposedly painted by John Wayne Gacy, one of the most feared serial killers in the US
The work portrays a clown and is entitled ‘Patches the Clown’ and is considered a self-portrait of the criminal, who, in the midst of his murder spree, used to perform in children’s hospitals and charity events similarly disguised under that pseudonym or ‘Pogo the clown’, the ‘alter egos’ he had invented.
The lower left corner of the painting reads “JWGacy”. In addition, Cult Collectibles includes in its offer a photograph of the back of the painting, where Gacy’s signature appears, appear to me in his own handwriting.
John Wayne Gacy was convicted to death for raping, torturing and murdering 33 youths and children between 1978 and 1978 in suburban Chicago, and was eventually executed in 1994. It is presumed that he painted ‘Patches the Clown’ while he was on death row, like other similar works of his authorship —his favorite subject was clowns— that have been auctioned after his death.
Cult Collectibles, owned by Canadian Taylor James, has made headlines in recent weeks for offering what it claims is the real urn containing Jeffrey’s ashes Dahmer, another serial killer who has now been made popular by a Netflix series that tells his story. “The ‘Milwaukee Monster’ vase of ashes is the rarest true crime related item I will offer on this site,” says Taylor.
