According to the Prosecutor’s Office, they will be charged with cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.

Four officials of the Municipal Police of Simón Rodríguez, in the state of Anzoátegui (Venezuela), who were recorded brutally beating a man, will be charged by the Prosecutor for committing crimes related to cruel, inhuman treatment and degrading.

This was reported this Monday by the Venezuelan Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, who published the video of the incident, which went viral on social networks, and pointed out that the four police officers are under arrest .

The beating occurred over the weekend at the ‘Los Yopales’ citizen service point (PAC), in the city of El Tigre. The video shows the agents beating the civilian inside the police headquarters; One of them even takes off a helmet and uses it to attack the man.

While the incident was being documented, a police officer approaches the person recording the video and try to prevent him from doing it. However, the woman defends herself and expresses to the official that she is fully entitled to do so.

Last September, Saab reported that through resolution No. 109, signed by the defense ministers, Vladimir Padrino López; and of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Remigio Ceballos, citizens can record audio and video of police procedures at checkpoints and alcabalas due to reports of abuse and extortion by the agents.

In addition, it indicated that “no person may be forced to hand over their cell phone or recording equipment before, during or after the routine verification procedure carried out by the authorities at the control point, nor to delete its content”.
