The cause is due to the Government’s decision to approve the budget for the 2023 without debate and vote in Parliament.
The coalition of the left-wing parties, New Popular Ecologist and Social Union (NUPES) and the right-wing party, Agrupación Nacional, want to cast a vote of no confidence in the French government, the French network BFM TV reported on Wednesday .
The reason for the measure is that the Government resorted to the mechanism of Article 49.3 of the French Constitution , which allows the budget to be adopted without discussion by the National Assembly (the French Parliament). “It is our responsibility to give our country a budget,” said Élisabeth Borne, the French prime minister, adding that the government resorted to the measure due to the counterproductive position of the opposition.
If the vote of no confidence is supported by the 289 deputies of the National Assembly, the Borne government would fall. However, there are discrepancies between NUPES and the National Association because they issue their proposals independently of one another, and do not want to lend mutual support.
The possible vote of no confidence takes place in the context of anti-government strikes and demonstrations in France. This Tuesday unions in Paris have protested demanding wage increases in oil refineries.
