They request the appearance of the Secretary of Defense of Mexico for the hacking of more than 6 terabytes of confidential information

The legislative faction of the Movimiento Ciudadano party asked the person in charge of the Armed Forces to explain the theft of intelligence files carried out by the Guacamaya group of activists.

After the entry into the databases of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) by the group of ‘hackers’ Guacamaya, the faction of deputies from the opposition party Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) asked the head of the Armed Forces , Luis Crescencio Sandoval, to appear before Congress to explain the theft of more than 6 terabytes of information.

The request was confirmed in a statement by the coordinator of the parliamentary group, Jorge Álvarez Máynez.

We have made a formal request to the Political Coordination Board to have a meeting with the head of @SEDENAmx. We maintain that there is no greater lack of respect for the armed forces than having held them responsible for the omissions of pusillanimous civil authorities.

Last 11 October, the secretary of the Defense Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Barrera (MC), sent a letter to the secretary asking him to appear in the lower house on the day 08 , in order to explain the hacking of Sedena, given the “seriousness of the matter” and the “risks involved”

. However, the official declined the invitation.

The Chamber of Deputies “is not the body to which an official has to report, in this case the Secretary of Defense,” said the head of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, during his own appearance in Congress, last Monday.

The official also indicated that the letter sent by Barrera was “disrespectful” and notified that due to “this mess”, the meeting between Sandoval and the Deputies “is not going to take place”.

The new request presented by the legislators of MC, which is also justified by the serious “risk to national security”, must still be approved by the Chamber’s Coordination Board, which will determine if the request proceeds.
