Rafael Moreno, who was also a social leader, received threats from 2019, when he began to denounce the alleged corruption of the administration .
The authorities of the Colombian department of Córdoba announced this Tuesday a reward of up to 37 million pesos (8.464 dollars) for information that allows us to find those responsible for the murder of the journalist and leader social Rafael Moreno, which occurred on Monday in the municipality of Montelíbano.
“We have asked for speed in the investigation process so that the journalist’s death does not go unpunished. That is why we have offered a reward of up to 40 million pesos and we are going to bring a Police and a specialized prosecutor to take on this case,” said the mayor, José Cura Buelvas, quoted by local media. He also assured that the security measures around some communicators who denounced intimidation in the past will be studied.
However, it should be remembered that Moreno had protection due to death threats received since 2019, when he began to denounce alleged corrupt activities of the administration, but it was reduced in the last three months.
The journalist was director of the news program ‘Voces de Córdoba’, but he also worked as a community leader in his municipality. He died after two men on a motorcycle shot him at a fast food joint he owned.
