The Russian Parliament approves martial law in the Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhie regions
The Federation Council – the Upper House of the Russian Parliament – has approved the introduction of martial law in the Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhie regions, recently joined the country.
The decision has been made unanimously by the 159 parliamentarians, without any vote in against nor any abstentions.
For her part, the speaker of the chamber, Valentina Matvienko, pointed out that kyiv has begun to use ” terrorist methods” against the population, indicating that “sabotage is being carried out against civilian property” and attacks were even prepared in public places.
“I am absolutely certain that martial law in the regions of the Donetsk People’s Republic , the People’s Republic of Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson will allow us to move faster towards our main ultimate goal: to return these regions to a peaceful life
,” Matvienko said before the vote.
After parliamentary approval, the speaker of the chamber announced that the resolution will be sent immediately to the president of the country.
Martial law in the mentioned regions will come into force from 00: 00 hours of 20 October 2022.

The president recalled that the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhie regions, imposed martial law before joining Russia. “And now we need to formalize this regime already within Russian law. That is why I signed a decree on the introduction of martial law in these four subjects of the Russian Federation“, he pointed.
