“This is the first time that someone has stepped forward to bring the accusations against Earl Mountbatten to court,” said the victim’s lawyer.
Louis Mountbatten, the great-uncle and mentor of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, has been accused of abusing in the 1970 of a minor in a children’s home involved in a sexual abuse scandal, according to local media.
Arthur Smyth, a former resident of the Kincora children’s home, in the city of Belfast, Northern Ireland, renounced anonymity to make allegations against the late Earl Mountbatten for having abused him twice when he was only 11 year old.
“Many victims of abuse choose to remain anonymous for reasons of obvious sensitivity. Arthur’s decision to reveal his identity must be placed in this context,” he said. the victim’s attorney, Kevin Winters.
Likewise, Winters pointed out that civil action has been taken against various state agencies alleging negligence and non-compliance of legal obligations and that the central element of the case is the accusations of sexual abuse of Arthur Smyth by the late Louis Mountbatten.
“This is the first time that someone has taken a step to the front to bring the accusations against the Earl Mountbatten to court,” the lawyer said. 39 children were abused in Kincora and three men were jailed for abusing 10 children in 1981. However, the investigation found no evidence that the security agencies were complicit in the abuses.
