Those responsible for the monument deny all rumors about a supposed deterioration and assure that the structure “has never been as well preserved as it is now “.
The authorities in charge of the Eiffel Tower denied the rumors that the famous Parisian monument is full of rust and must be dismantled and repaired beyond the works in progress, which are being being carried out in order to repaint the symbol of the French capital for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The alerts went off when the weekly magazine Marianne published a series of data that correspond to reports written between 2010 and 2016, in which there was talk of more than 800 construction failures and maintenance of the tower, in addition to highlighting its high levels of corrosion.
“For the first time in its history we stripped the tower, that is, we removed all the layers of paint” and “we discovered that the wrought iron was impeccable ,” Patrick Branco Ruivo, the director, told AFP. general of the company operating the Eiffel Tower. According to him, the structure “has never been as well preserved as it is now”, in the midst of its twentieth painting ‘campaign’.
Branco Ruivo assured that the 133-year-old monument , “will continue to stand with this impeccable iron”, and stressed that the painting project started in 2019 aims to “treat and protect” the emblematic construction.
As for the more than 800 defects mentioned by Marianne, out of a total of 18,000 parts, they are mostly parts that had not received the highest rating, explained the director of the company.
“The 68 elements that were subject to alert were secondary”, affirmed Branco Ruivo, assuring that their progressive substitution is underway.
