The Electoral Justice of Brazil orders to investigate an alleged Bolsonarist “disinformation network”

It also orders that the networks identify who are the owners of 28 profiles of the president’s environment suspected of spreading disinformation.

The Superior Electoral Court of Brazil ordered this Thursday to investigate an alleged “disinformation network” to attack former president and leader of the Workers’ Party (PT) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for the benefit of President Jair Bolsonaro.

Among the list of those investigated are the president himself and one of his sons, Rio de Janeiro councilor Carlos Bolsonaro, who is in charge of social media and his father’s social campaign since before he came to power in 2018.

The measure responds to a request from the front itself that supports Lula, ‘Brazil of Hope’, which denounced the existence of a “disinformation ecosystem” orchestrated from the Bolsonaro environment “to manipulate voters and influence the electoral process.”

For now, the presidential Planalto Palace has not ruled on the decision.

On Tuesday, the TSE’s inspector general, Benedito Gonçalves, determined the investigation, that the judges confirmed this day.

The decision also orders that social networks identify who are the owners of 28 profiles of Bolsonaro’s entourage suspected of spreading misinformation about the electoral process.

This Thursday, when participating in the trial, Gonçalves stated that there are signs of a massive operation from that network, which could unbalance the electoral dispute .
