Starlink will accept donations to bring satellite Internet to regions in need

Elon Musk, owner of the company, announced the measure in response to a tweet.

The satellite Internet company Starlink will give its users the option to make donations to bring broadband service to needy regions, said Elon Musk, owner of the company, on Twitter.

The billionaire made the decision following a tweet made by Ham Serunjogi, CEO of a financial technology company, who said he was willing to donate so that schools and hospitals in Uganda have Starlink services.

“Anyone else want to donate Starlink to places in need?” Musk replied to the comment, which received thousands of ‘likes’ in a matter of minutes. “Ok, we will add a donation option to Starlink,” he added upon seeing the response from Internet users.

The plans to receive financial contributions come after the businessman showed his discontent for providing Internet in Ukraine for free. “To hell with that. Even though Starlink continues to lose money and other companies are receiving billions of dollars from taxpayers, we will continue to finance the Government of Ukraine for free,” the tycoon wrote this Saturday on social networks.
