SpaceX withdraws its funding request to the Pentagon for Starlink terminals in Ukraine

Published:

Elon Musk revealed that 25.300 kits have been shipped to Ukraine, but only 10.630 are paying for the service.

The CEO of SpaceX, Elon Musk, responded on Monday to claims that the US government could pay for the services of the Starlink terminals in Ukraine.

“SpaceX has already withdrawn its funding request,” the tycoon tweeted in response to a Politico article that claimed the Pentagon is considering paying SpaceX for the satellite network. “To be precise, 25.300 terminals were shipped to Ukraine, but currently only 10.630 are paying for the service,” added Musk.

It is reported that the Pentagon was studying the possibility of allocating funds for Starlink, which would guarantee a satellite communications system in Ukraine, after Musk explained that he will no longer be able to finance the terminals in that country, and asked the US government to take charge.

On this same day, the Financial Times newspaper reported that the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs of the EU, Josep Borrell, has instructed the European officials to prepare plans for the reinforcement and distribution of Internet coverage in Ukraine, with the possibility of covering the costs of Starlink systems.
