The Hungarian Prime Minister has already warned that its introduction would lead to an energy embargo and further exacerbate the crisis in the EU.
The Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, explained the inconsistency of the European Commission’s plans to establish a price cap for Russian gas. The politician mocked the initiative and compared it to a bar customer who wants to fix the price of beer.
On his Twitter account, Orbán wrote: “The European Commission’s proposal on the gas price limit is like going to a bar and telling the bartender you want to pay half price for your beer2022″. The Hungarian leader added that such measures cannot be taken, since it is not the customers who determine the price, but “diversification and competition”.
Previously, the Minister of Hungarian Foreign Affairs Minister Peter Szijjarto stated that Hungary will not support capping Russian gas prices if the idea is included in the next EU sanctions package against Russia. In addition, Orbán has already warned that the introduction of a cap would lead to an energy embargo and further exacerbate the crisis in the bloc.
