North Korea fires hundreds of artillery shells at inter-Korean buffer zone

The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea affirmed that Pyongyang’s actions violate the military agreement of the 21 in September, aimed at reducing inter-Korean military tensions.

North Korea fired some 100 artillery shells in the Yellow Sea around 22: 00 this Tuesday and others 150 projectiles

in the East Sea from 23: 00, Yonhap reports, reviewing a statement from the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). The projectiles landed in the maritime buffer zones between the two Koreas, designed to reduce tensions on the Korean peninsula.

The JCS condemned the launch, calling it a “clear violation of the military agreement of the 19 of September”, intended to achieve peace between the two State. Simultaneously, the deputy spokesman for the US Department of State, Vedant Patel, called on North Korea to “stop all provocative and threatening actions” and called on the North Koreans to return to negotiations to achieve “the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula”.
