Mexico discloses security data: what has happened to the homicides?
In September of 2022, 2.644 murders were recorded in Mexico, an increase of 0,99 % with respect to the previous month, which reached 2.618 deaths.
In the accumulated January-September, the country adds 20.351 intentional homicides, a growth of 8,56 % with respect to the same period of 2021, when they were posted 21.510 crimes, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.
The information was released by the secretary of Public Security, Rosa Isela Rodríguez, who presented this Thursday the monthly figures of criminal incidence in the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The secretary highlighted that until September 2022 the number of intentional homicides has decreased by 13,9% from December 2018.
According to Rodríguez, six states concentrate the 48, 9 % of the cases , these are: Guanajuato, Baja California, State of Mexico, Michoacán and Chihuahua, which together accumulate 11.510 murders in 2022.
In addition to the increase registered in homicides, a monthly increase of 9 was observed,82 % in femicides when counting 78 cases in September, in contrast to 71 in August. On an annual level, however, the figure is 6,78 % lower, with 711 gender-based murders of women recorded in 2022 compared to 763 reported in the first nine months of 2021.
Other crimes that, according to Rodríguez, had a monthly decrease in September were six types of theft: cattle (-9.8%), public transport (-5.3 %), in private transport (-3.8%), to business (-2%), to home (-0.7%) and carriers (-0.2%).
