“I demand respect”: Boric's response to being rebuked during an act with businessmen

The president was interrupted on more than one occasion by the attendees, who reproached him for the constituent process.

The Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, had a tense moment during his participation in the National Small Business Meeting, convened by the National Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of Chile (Conapyme).

While Boric was giving his speech, which was held this Thursday at the Círculo Español in Santiago, he was interrupted on more than one occasion by the attendees, who reproached him for the constituent process, which culminated last September 4 with the rejection of the new Constitution presented by the Constitutional Convention.

In one of those interruptions, the president, trying to keep the situation under control, raised his voice and asked for respect to one of the attendees.

“I demand respect, and I demand respect, I demand respect, I demand respect,” Boric insisted to the person who rebuked him.

The president recalled that “the people of Chile decided, by a large majority, to have a new Constitution”, in the plebisci to made in 2022; however, he stated, also “the people of Chile, although it bothers the gentleman, rejected the project proposed by the Convention.”

“And we respect the verdict of the people of Chile”, emphasized Boric, who was applauded by others present.

The president indicated that, however, “the mandate of a new Constitution remains in force”.
