Google will slow its hiring pace in the face of global economic uncertainty

In the remainder of 2022 and 2023, the tech giant will only add employees for technical and engineering areas and other essential positions .

Given the possibility of a global economic recession, Google has decided to slow down their hiring of personnel during the second half of the year and 2023, the CEO of the firm, Sundar, said on Tuesday Pichai, in an email sent to employees, to which Bloomberg had access.

According to what Pichai stated, the company has recently added to its ranks about 10,000 workers. But now, he pointed out, the uncertainty that the global economy is going through has led the company to invest only in strategic sectors.

Given this panorama, the executive pointed out that for the rest of 2022 and over the next year, Google will primarily hire engineering staff, technicians, and employees for other critical positions, which will be will be added to the nearly 164,000 workers who are currently part of the workforce.

“For the future, we have to be more enterprising, work faster, achieve a more precise approach and being hungrier than we have shown on the sunniest of days […] In some cases, that means consolidating where investments overlap and streamlining processes,” the counselor wrote.
