El Salvador approves the law that allows voting and running for elected office from abroad

The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador approved the Special Law for the Exercise of Suffrage Abroad, which will allow face-to-face electronic voting and remote Internet voting for Salvadorans residing abroad.

The measure, which received 66 votes in favor, 10 against and 4 abstentions, it will also give Salvadorans abroad the possibility of running for elected office.

“We have returned to our brothers abroad the right to participate in the governability that our country is now experiencing,” said the president of the Legislative Assembly, Ernesto Castro.
