The Ministry of Public Health reported that it is a man who traveled to Africa and has symptoms of the disease.The Ministry of Health of Ecuador confirmed this Friday the first suspected case of monkeypox, a disease that is spreading in Europe and that hours ago was also reported in Argentina, the only case in America Latin.
The health authorities reported that it is a male patient who traveled to Africa and that “presented symptoms related to the disease , such as fever and skin lesions”.
According to the statement published by the ministry, surveillance was activated epidemiological for the person and their close contacts, so currently remains in isolation.
“The National Institute of Public Health Research (INSPI) took the patient’s samples, with which the respective actions will be carried out to confirm or rule out monkeypox,” the ministry reported, detailing that the Results will be ready next week.
If confirmed, this would be the second officially reported case of monkeypox in Latin America. On the morning of this Friday, the Argentine Health authorities confirmed that a 40-year-old patient, who had traveled to Spain and returned on May 16, was diagnosed with the disease.
At least another suspected case of monkeypox has been reported in the region, in Bolivia; while in Colombia the National Institute of Health announced that it is studying the close environment of a Spanish tourist who visited the country for a few days and upon returning to Spain was diagnosed with the disease.
Peru, although it has not reported cases, declared a health alert in the country; while the Dominican Republic, which has also not confirmed any sick, issued an epidemiological alert in this regard.
