British art teacher suspended for allowing her students to photograph themselves partially nude for a class project

The students would have taken pictures of themselves in their underwear or holding alcoholic beverages and making allegedly offensive gestures while wearing the school uniform.

British education authorities recently banned an art teacher from a town in the county of Northamptonshire (United Kingdom), for allowing its students, some as young as 15, to photograph themselves partially nude for a course project.

The Regulatory Agency The British School of Education (TRA) ruled that Emma Wright, 41, incurred in a serious violation of professional standards and rules for the protection of the well-being of students.

According to the agency, the students took pictures in their underwear or holding alcoholic beverages or using hands to cover breasts. In other images they were shown making allegedly offensive hand gestures while wearing school uniform, smoking and posing in bathing suits.

Wright was denounced before the TRA in 2018, after the director of art and design of the educational institution found the portfolio of work of the adolescents.

The teacher alleged that she had presented the students with the work of an artist who created “suggestive images”, which she did not consider to be of a sexual nature. Likewise, she insisted that she clarified to the students that this did not mean that they should do similar work.
