If Washington did not play a leading role in the process, another country, whose values they don’t match the Americans, it would or there would be “gaps that are filled with bad stuff”.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken , declared on Monday that “the world does not organize itself” and, if Washington did not play a leading role in its organization, another country would, “probably not in a way that fully reflects our interests and values”.

According to his words, there is “a competition to form what comes after the post-cold war”. “What does it look like? Whose values will be reflected in what we do?” Blinken said during his speech at Stanford University.

Blinken:

Next, the Secretary of State highlighted that “the world does not organize itself” and, under these conditions, EE America has to choose: “if we don’t play a role in the organization, if we don’t take a leadership role in this, then one of two things: either someone assumes it and it may be China and […] probably not in a way that fully reflects our interests and values, or, perhaps [es] just as badly, no one does and so you tend to have gaps that filled with bad things before being filled with good things”.

In this context, he stressed that Washington “has an interest in participating” and “leading” the process formation of the world order.

Blinken argued that China also seeks to establish its world order, but it is “a profoundly illiberal order”.”The order we seek, once more, imperfectly, it is more liberal”, he underlined.
