An EasyJet pilot in training dies days after being bitten by a mosquito

Oriana Pepper, 21, died on July 12 last year in a hospital in the Belgian city of Antwerp. The young woman had passed the theoretical exams of a program for pilots of the EasyJet airline , so she traveled to Belgium to complete their training.

There Pepper was bitten by a mosquito on the forehead, near one eye, and the area of ​​the bite was it inflamed him, so on July 7 he went to a hospital, where they gave him some antibiotics. Two days later, she returned to the medical center because her condition had worsened and she had to be hospitalized. Although she was operated on , the doctors could not save her life.

An unprecedented “tragedy”

At Wednesday’s hearing, Coroner Nigel Parsley concluded that the cause of death was a Serious infection caused by the insect bite. The expert explained that Pepper’s death occurred in three stages: the formation of a septic embolism in the brain , a bilateral infection of the carotid arteries and cellulitis on the face, all caused by the bacteria ‘Staphylococcus aureus’.

Parsley said he had never seen a case like this, which he described as a “tragedy”.
