An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 shakes Panama and causes several aftershocks
An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 was recorded in Panama this Thursday, 79 kilometers from the island of Coiba, located on the Pacific coast , at 6: 57 in the morning (local time).
The information was given by The Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama posted on its Twitter account.
So far no victims or material damage have been reported, according to the National Civil Protection System.
Similarly, the National Emergency Operations Center reported that monitoring and surveillance continues.

The telluric event was felt in the Panamanian provinces of Chiriquí, Panamá, Panamá Oeste, Colón, Bocas del Toro, Herrera, Veraguas and Coclé.
In the first images that have been disseminated on the networks, the exact moment when the seismic movement was recorded, which has had several aftershocks, is observed.
The characteristics of this earthquake do not meet the conditions for there to be a tsunami threat in Panama.
On the other hand, according to the report of the Tsunami Warning Center of the Secretariat of the Navy and Navy of Mexico (Semar), no generation of variations in sea level is expected on the Mexican coasts and neither on those of El Salvador.
