The Argentine authorities are looking for the body of a tourist who fell this Monday into the Iguazú Falls from the footbridges of the Bosetti Falls, according to the newspaper La Nación.
The bad weather and the large flow of water from the falls due to the unusual flood complicate the raking tasks, but the rescue teams, made up of Volunteer Firefighters and the Naval Prefecture, found a slipper that would belong to the disappeared person.
The man would have 60 years and was part of a group that toured the Iguazú National Park with a guide. However, until now no one has claimed his whereabouts. It is known that he is male, but his identity is unknown. The man fell after climbing a railing of the walkway, something that is expressly prohibited.
Investigators are trying to determine if it was suicide or an accident due to trying to take a photo with the cell phone from a dangerous area.
Walter Bareiro, second chief of the Puerto Iguazú Volunteer Firefighters, told the Télam agency that finding him alive is already ruled out. However, he pointed out that “the search continues until the body turns up”
Almost 36 hours after starting the search operation, the authorities found a body in Foz de Iguazú, Brazil. Apparently, he would be a citizen of Canadian nationality. Now it is being investigated whether it is the same man who fell this Monday from one of the footbridges of the Bosetti waterfall.
The Iguazú falls, on the border between Brazil and Argentina, and considered one of the seven wonders of nature, recorded an unusual increase in water flow, which last week exceeded 16,5 million liters per second, more than 10 times your average.
This is the largest amount recorded since 1997, when the Compañía Paranaense de Energia (Copel) began the measurements. According to Copel, the normal amount of water is considered to be 1.5 million liters per second.
